Lily Rose had a circus themed birthday party and Mia was absolutely thrilled.

Mia got a double high five for her great work on the trapeze and rope.

Mia had a whole lot of water and friend fun during a garden playdate after school.

Mia loves finding new ways to enjoy the bouncy ride at our favorite playground.

And she loves making new friends. Here she helps some decorate a “birthday cake".

Heather visited! Mia loved sharing brunch and the Botanical Garden with Heather.

Also known as very favorite ever Uncle Patrick. Mia had a most wonderful time.

Mia got to ride a horse! Well, a pretend horse. She reveled in every minute of the ride.

Most perfect and beautiful rainbow, we all enjoyed it, for all five minutes it was here.

We got five minutes of snow in Atlanta; Mia enjoyed every single minute of it.

Mia! She waits patiently for Mom to open the presents she and Dad wrapped so beautifully and to read the card Mia made with such care.

Mia is a baby dinosaur at Fernbank science museum.

She shows her tree frog friend the dinosaur skeleton (all of it, she ran around it).

Moments before we took down the Christmas tree for holiday season 2009, Mia hung some ornaments she’d just made (and figured out herself how to hang).

Mia and Daddy made cookies for Santa, and Mia also made a card.

Santa enjoyed everything very much.

Mia absolutely loved seeing her grandpa and his dog, Gatsby.

And her very favorite Uncle Patrick.

And wonderful Aunt Wanda, who gave her pigtails.

Mia played with Gatsby the entire time. Here she gives him his present.

Mia at her school winter recital, she was fabulous.

Aunt Sue and Uncle Ron visited, and Mia was very, very happy about their visit.

She had a wonderful time.

They grow up so fast.

Up, up, and away!

Our daughter is four.

Mia takes delight in the cake she and Daddy baked and frosted and decorated.

Mia loves her new backpack (thank you Alan and Kristine!)!

Surely there is no sweeter gift than a daughter who sings and dances and runs her way through life, stopping only to fix a shoe, before she’s off again for more adventure.

The party involved lots of sliding and bouncing, generously frosted cupcakes (and the frosting is Mia’s favorite part), and her best friends, so a most wonderful time was had.

Mia’s first bike helmet! She heartily approved.

Tilda is one of Mia’s very favorite people, and they had a grand time at the zoo.

And the girls made a new friend, a Southern Ground Hornbill, named Gumby, who loves interacting with children, especially racing with them back and forth.

The girls also had a great time when Tilda and her family visited in late March.

It was picture day at school, so of course the day involved Mia writing her name on her hands and feet ("Look Mommy! I wrote my name!") (washable markers? well, not on skin), trying on Mommy’s glasses, and putting a pansy flower she picked in a vase.

Our beloved cousin and aunt was traveling around the world, and we were so thrilled when she stopped in Atlanta. We had so much fun, and hope she comes back often!

We had a zoo adventure, petting goats, reading the map, and Mia’s first carousel ride.

And we got to eat an authentic Schwarzwald Torte that Karin made, it was SO yummy.

When one’s very favorite uncle is named Patrick, Saint Patrick’s Day is extra special. It also means wearing a shamrock hat to school!

Snow in February! Unexpected, and very enjoyed, especially by Mia.

Circus day at school means a clown nose and silly hat.

We are always happy for rain in Atlanta, especially Mia (she gets to use her umbrella!).

Mia’s first pigtails ever! She’s not quite sure what to make of them…

First order of business for Mia? Organizing and stacking the presents by color (despite Santa having left them rather artfully mixed up and arranged).

Mia distributes gifts and even helps Grandpa open his present.

Mia plays with her favorite Uncle Patrick, building an elaborate marble roll.

Mia plays with her Grandpa and Aunt Wanda, her favorite new game, a memory art game from Grandpa, and Gatsby wants to play too.

Update: From Mia’s teacher’s Daily Log 05/07/09, “We played memory match … Mia impressed us all with her uncanny ability to remember exactly where all the matches were – she could beat me hands down any day!” Thank you, Grandpa!

Decorating the tree with Aunt Wanda and beloved Ziggy (rest in peace, dear dog).

Songs were sung, props were flung, and a wonderful meal was had by all. And, right on cue, Mia throws her snowflake with great zeal and abandon.

Daddy was unpacking some old art supply boxes and came across a box of chalk, which Mia immediately claimed … and, wow, she’s really rather good.

We got to the playground and Mia ran off … she was halfway up the climbing wall before we found her (our hearts skipped a beat (it all turned out well)).

What better way to spend a momentous election day than at the zoo with friends! With school closed (voting location), Mia, Lily Rose and Cole had a grand zoo adventure.

They had a lot of fun, especially sharing ice.

And brushing the petting zoo animals.

The day Mia’s grandmother was born. Birthdays should be celebrated, even when our hearts are still breaking. Mia shows us how (at a birthday party for a school friend).

And Mia serves as good reminder to celebrate all moments, especially with Daddy.

And always say hello to a new tree.

Watering plants (unfortunately out of focus…and the next moment was even wetter).

One day Mia asked for a piece of tape; a bit later, we looked in on her, she was sitting back in a “boat” (a very big basket), casting her “fishing line". She’d made a fishing pole with ribbon and cardboard roll (and, thanks to Daddy’s help, Mia caught a fish!).

Mia’s invented a new game…and it involves rollerskates.

And she’s always very precise about where she draws and what she draws.

And they talked about the pretty flowers.

Later she painted, with great enthusiasm, and carefully examined her work.

She was pleased.

Then Mia found a new “canvas". (It’s all Daddy’s fault.)

Discovering a “treasure box” (a pretty box! with a box inside! it was exciting).

And telling her great grandparents all about it.

And later falling asleep underneath the dining table.

Her end of year school recital … Mia hid under her hat.

Her sweet teacher, Ms. Shemeka, asked Mia if she might peek out from underneath.

Afterwards, Mia felt quite festive, and danced around a tree.

And around and around she went (Mia is rather partial to trees).

Everyday Mia gets Mommy and leads her to the faucet outside. She loves watering the vegetable garden. And once a day is not enough as far as she’s concerned.

She really, really loves watering.

And Mia takes great care watering the blueberry bushes out front.

Mia did the art for her shirt! When the shirt arrived, Mia was very excited, she put it on immediately and danced and ran around. Mia is rarely still, always coming…

…Or going.

And she loves watching Daddy work. (Daddy makes pretty, pretty things.)

And inventing dangerous new sports, like tricycle surfing.

And Ziggy is always close-by, ready to play, and to protect.

Well, not so new (from neighbor with older kids), and trudged home by Mom, and deposited in the backyard….and discovered with great enthusiasm by Mia.

Sliding is always fun.

Slowest. Goose. Ever.

Which means Mia can go out and play!

When venturing outside, always take your bag.

Various items have been mysteriously disappearing. Often these items appear later in some unusual and unexpected place. Infrared surveillance cameras have given us our first real clue.

Despite the fashion faux paux, Mia continues to delight….

It was 84° today. This will probably be the last time we see the cute little orange pea coat and hat.
